Yesterday was a great day, all day long. I love Independence day. I love happy people wearing red, white, & blue. And, yesterday, I loved seeing people wearing their country's soccer jerseys so proudly to support their team for world cup. It's just nice to see people have a sense of belonging to something big and something great.
Last night, Ben and I went to our front yard, and watched the neighborhood fill up, with cars lining up the street, blankets & folding chairs on all of the lawns, and people out mixing and mingling. It was great. Soon, the sky was lit up with fireworks from all around us. Several nearby neighboring houses were setting them off, and the city fireworks were less than a mile away.
We couldn't believe that with all the loud booms, Eli & Anna were sleeping right through it. We were feeling so bad that Eli was missing it. So, finally, we decided to wake him to come see the show. This is kind of a big deal, since Ben & I are pretty much sticklers about naptime and bedtime. Eli peeked out his window, and said, "What? Fire?" I brought him down, and he sat on Ben's lap with a huge grin. We seriously had a 360 degree show of fireworks surrounding us. He even cheered on the fireworks, "Go, Go, Go, fireworks! Good job. Boom-boom!" He was so happy. I'm sure his mind was wondering if this is the kind of fun that happens every night after he goes to bed! In fact, he said, "Mom, I was sleeping?" I said, "Yes, I couldn't believe that you were sleeping with all these loud booms." Then, he said our favorite line these days, "Oh, I'm sorry, Mom. I forgot." (He says that all the time, for no real reason. It's pretty dang cute.)
It was one of those nights that I know Eli might not remember, but I hope I never forget. So, yes. Last night, I wend to bed with my heart full...full of love for my favorite people, full of love for my country, and full of love for the Father in Heaven who blessed me with all of this.
