Didn't get around to it

So, at the end of the day yesterday, this is what I was looking at.

I had so many things on my "to do" list that I just didn't get around to, most of which involved cleaning and laundry.  I thought, where on earth has the day gone, and how did I not get anything done?  I seem to have a lot of days like this.

Then, I remembered a song by one of my favorite artists, Hilary Weeks...

"And sometimes you feel likeYour days are spent and goneAnd the question running through your mindIs what have I gotten doneAnd when you finally have a moment to slow downAt the end of your day I know Father would say
Believe in what you're doingBelieve in who you areAnd hold tight to the truth that you’re a daughter of GodBelieve in who you’re becoming, believe in who you are"

And, then I remembered that I actually got a lot done today.  I cleaned up the strawberry yogurt that was smeared from head to toe on my little one, had a tickle fight on the couch, fed him a PB&J sandwich, watched him go down the slide about 50 times, sat outside surrounded by bubbles, and read him his favorite bedtime story, as he laughed at every page.  It may not be anything to write home about.  But, these things are the things that I dreamed about doing for years, before I was blessed with my wonderful budding family.  Dishes might not get done, and laundry might not get folded.  But, dreams come true.

First fight

So, I'm pretty sure that Eli must have gotten into his first physical tiff yesterday at the gym child care.  After the hubs and I did our workouts, we picked him up downstairs in the day care.  I will say that I was shocked to find him on the little basketball court playing dodgeball with a bunch of 10-year-old appearing kiddos.  It was quite a site to see a little 1 1/2 year old running around through the whirl of balls flying by.  I was glad he was safe and sound.  But, I was less glad when I saw his face.  I'm pretty sure this had nothing to do with dodge ball.  I don't know, maybe some little girl has a crush on him and decided to claw him...on his face, neck, and hands.  Yikes!

Ok, maybe the claw marks by his eyes and nose are a little hard to see.  I get it.  But, they sure did break his mama's heart!

A lapse in time...

Well, I am just terrible about writing in a journal and keeping a record of daily life (& important things, for that matter).  And, I guess it turns out that I am not that great at blogging either.

But, lately I was able to read a 100 page "journal" story that my father-in-law wrote about all time when the family lived in Spain for 3 years when my husband was just an exploring, young kiddo.  And, I just loved it!  It reminded me how important it is to keep track of the little things in life, and the big things, too!

We have adjusted to life in Texas.  We miss our friends in Arizona, but were able to go for a quick visit last month, which was great.

Other than that, we have had a busy few months.  I think we must spend half our time visiting my parents and siblings in San Antonio, which is so awesome.  It is so nice to be able to jump in the car and drive to see family!  We just love it!

I have to say, it has been an adjustment for me to spend so much time with Eli, my little guy.  At first, I felt like I was spending half my day, staring at him, wondering what we should do next.  In fact, I am embarrassed to say, that since I was used to working so much at a super busy job, I at times felt bored with this shift in lifestyle.  Yes, I said it, bored.  And, with that, of course I felt guilty, because there is no way I should be bored with my darling 1 1/2 year old!  Anyway, it only took a couple of weeks to get into our groove of daily activities and fun.  And, now, I simply cannot imagine being away from him more than I am now!  We spend our days hopping from splash pad to park to the backyard, and everything in between!  I feel so lucky to have him as my little side kick every day.  I just love him to pieces.  Can't you see why?

Independence

Happy July 4th.  I love this country.  I love my family.  I love our beliefs & values.

...and, I love pinterest.  It has helped me a time or two with making my kiddo look adorable.  I love our little handprint shirt, but I love the kid wearing it so much more!
